As the new committee gets down to implement its plan for this term we would like to share a few thoughts with you.
Toastmasters club including our own LA1924 is a voluntary club. We are a common-interest group and have come together to accomplish a specific purpose, which is to polish our public speaking skills and augment our leadership skills.
This group is always available to support you every time you come forward to deliver your speech. It is always there to encourage you every time you take up a meeting role. Having become a part of this support group:
- Are you being proactive to take advantage of the unique platform available to you?
- Are you making an effort to fine-tune your speech-writing skills?
- Are you spending time with your mentors to improve your speech delivery skills?
- Are you facing the club audience regularly to deliver your speeches or are you taking up the meeting roles?
- Are you helping other toastmasters hone their skills?
If you are not doing these, then you are not only letting yourself down, but also the club. When you are not stepping up to your potential, the club too loses an opportunity to learn from you. Toastmasters International only provides a template, but it is entirely up to you to work on improving your skills. And if you have a plan, the club can help you put into practice.
Friends, it’s never too late to plan your speaking schedule and it is never too early to deliver your speeches. So I say – Carpe Diem. Put aside all your reluctance and seize the moment. Seize the opportunity and see yourself grow! And as you grow, you will experience the real benefit of being part of this support group.
Keeping above factors in mind, we have consciously come up with a collective initiative to unveil a theme for the term ‘ARISE AND SHINE’, for enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.
